Our online short courses take place throughout the year, such as our Namaste Care course (due to start next week, so if you want to join us you’ll have to act quickly! Email dementia@worc.ac.uk for more information), our Meeting Centres training (next course is starting in October), and our Championing Physical Activity course (no dates scheduled yet, we’ll let you know when the next one gets set up). We also deliver bespoke courses for external organisations according to what they need, so these could take place at any time of year.

Our research projects also don’t care about the academic year, so although many of the ADS team end up taking annual leave during the summer we’re still working hard on our research (despite the heatwaves!). Don’t believe us? Our Turn Down The Noise project has got going, we had our Food Glorious Food launch event last month, we’re just finishing the testing phase of our Dementia-Friendly Parks resources, we’ve been visiting community groups for our Herefordshire Dementia Voices 2 project, and we went all the way to Dundee for our Meeting Centre in a hospital project.

Over the last couple of months we’ve also been busy working on several new funding bids, as well as presenting at the following conferences:

Learning and Teaching Conference – Inclusive by Design: Innovation, Authentic Assessment, and Student Voice. Presentation on ‘The role of students (and staff) in the development of a Dementia Awareness course’

Postgraduate Research Conference. Presentations by four of our PhD students.

Alzheimer’s Association International Conference. Posters for ‘Evaluating Food-related Practices in Post Diagnostic Community-based Group Support For People Affected By Dementia In The UK’ and ‘Royal Victoria Hospital Meeting Centre: Community Support In A Hospital Setting’

To top it all off, we’ve had a couple of journal articles published recently (and there are quite a few others under way), and one of our PhD students had an item in the latest Alzheimer’s Society newsletter:

Bray J, Atkinson T, Barrett J (2026;), “The practical and contextual challenges of conducting an independent field evaluation of a new staff role in a care-enabled housing setting”.
