Lori La Bey talks with LindaThompson,\u00a0founder of Theo\u2019s Flowers, who grew up on the North Shore of Massachusetts, one of five siblings, in a family where caring for one another was simply a way of life. That early foundation of service would go on to shape both her career and her calling.<\/p>\n

For nearly 40 years, she worked as a Human Resources leader in the healthcare field, dedicating her professional life to supporting people, organizations, and communities. Throughout those decades, her passion for helping others only deepened.<\/p>\n

Theo\u2019s Flowers was born out of a deeply personal experience: watching both of her parents live with Alzheimer\u2019s disease. That journey gave her a firsthand understanding of the isolation and loss of connection that so often accompanies dementia and memory disorders \u2014 and also revealed how something as simple as a flower and a visit could bring a moment of joy, calm, or recognition to someone who needed it.<\/p>\n

Determined to turn that experience into something meaningful, she founded Theo\u2019s Flowers as a way to repurpose beautiful floral arrangements and hand-deliver them to elders living with memory disorders, along with something equally important \u2014 the gift of a visit.<\/p>\n

True to the spirit that inspired it, Theo\u2019s Flowers remains entirely volunteer-run and is powered by family: the founder\u2019s three sisters ( Nancy, Tracey and Kristen), her two adult daughters, and Nancy\u2019s adult daughter all work side by side to keep the mission blooming. Together, they\u2019ve built an organization rooted in kindness, environmental responsibility, and a shared belief that every person deserves to feel seen, valued, and remembered.<\/p>\n

Theo\u2019s Flowers<\/strong> solves two problems at once \u2014 floral waste from weddings and events, and the isolation so many elders with dementia experience. About 90% of the flowers used are rescued rather than purchased, sourced from 50+ weddings and events.<\/p>\n

The visit matters as much as the flowers<\/strong><\/p>\n

The bouquet is really a vehicle for something bigger \u2014 a hand-delivered visit. For someone with memory loss, a caring visit paired with something calming and beautiful can spark connection when words might not.<\/p>\n

Explosive, volunteer-powered growth<\/strong><\/p>\n

Launched in September 2021 and entirely volunteer-run, Theo\u2019s Flowers has grown in under five years to a team of more than 50 volunteers who\u2019ve hand-delivered over 700 bouquets \u2014 a compelling started-small, look-how-far-it\u2019s-come arc.<\/p>\n

Generations in Bloom \u2014 the intergenerational piece<\/strong><\/p>\n

Separate from the core volunteer program, student volunteers have delivered 500+ additional bouquets \u2014 a natural spot to talk about bridging young people and elders, and inspiring listeners to get students or schools involved.<\/p>\n

How the community can get involved<\/strong><\/p>\n

Florists, event planners, families, and care communities all play a role in the flower-rescue pipeline \u2014 a strong closing point that invites listeners to donate flowers, volunteer, refer a family member, or partner as a care community.<\/p>\n
