In December we did our first data collection visit to ‘The Clubbie’, the first Meeting Centre in a hospital, which is based within the Royal Victoria Hospital in Dundee. Last week we had the pleasure of doing our second visit. Considering the visits are planned around out availability, we’ve been very lucky with our timings. Last time we got to see doggy yoga, and this time just happened to coincide with World Chocolate Day which meant a chocolate tasting activity! It’s a tough job but somebody’s got to do it.
As before, it was great to spend some time at The Clubbie and see what goes on there, but this time we got to see some other parts of the hospital as well. A theme this time seemed to be gardens and outside spaces. The Clubbie itself has a greenhouse where members can get involved in planting seeds, and there was also a hotly contested sunflower growing competition taking place. A couple of the wards we visited had garden spaces with Activity Coordinators taking the lead in terms of making them inviting places for people to use.
We did also do a lot of work while we were there. We spoke with a whole variety of staff as well as people attending The Clubbie and family members, helping us to get lots of different perspectives of the Meeting Centre, so plenty of lovely data for us to work with and analyse. We’re definitely going to be busy for the next couple of months!
So thank you to everyone who we saw while we were there, and to those who helped with organising the interviews and making us feel so welcome. We’re just sad that there are no more visits planned.
