Dementia Help has been named Carers Support Organisation of the Year in the Corporate LiveWire Innovation & Excellence Awards 2026 – the third year in a row that it has received the prestigious accolade.
Established in 2017 by writer, editor and former carer Christina Collison, Dementia Help provides practical, experience-led information and support to people caring for someone with dementia.
The organisation was inspired by Christina’s experience of caring for her mother, Hazel, who was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2009. After Hazel died in 2016, Christina used everything she had learned during their journey to create a supportive resource for other families.
Dementia Help began as a Facebook page and quickly developed into a community of more than 17,000 people. It has since expanded to include the Dementia Help website, a digital magazine, free guides and resources, and dementia awareness training for care homes, community groups and local businesses.
Accessible dementia information
Its accessible information helps carers understand dementia and deal with many of the practical and emotional challenges that can arise as the condition progresses. Topics include changes in mood and behaviour, communication, nutrition, appetite, daily routines, finances and carers’ wellbeing.
Christina is also the author of 50 Things Every Carer Should Know About Dementia, which offers straightforward and compassionate guidance based on both lived experience and extensive research.
The Corporate LiveWire judging panel was particularly impressed by Dementia Help’s commitment to turning personal experience into accessible, practical support for carers throughout the UK. The judges highlighted its combination of expert-informed content and lived experience, which ensures that its guidance is both credible and relatable.
Growing online dementia community
They also recognised the organisation’s growing online community, its training for care homes and local organisations, and Dementia Help magazine’s role as a trusted source of information.
Christina says: ‘I am absolutely thrilled that Dementia Help has been named Carers Support Organisation of the Year for the third consecutive year. It means a great deal to have our work recognised in this way.
‘Dementia Help grew out of my experience of caring for my mum, Hazel. I remember how overwhelming and isolating caring for someone with dementia could feel, and how difficult it was to find clear, practical information about the everyday situations we faced.

‘My aim has always been to help other carers feel less alone and more confident in their role. This award is also a tribute to the thousands of carers in our community who generously share their experiences and support one another.’
With dementia cases on the increase, the need for accessible and reliable guidance continues to grow.
Dementia Help remains committed to improving understanding of the condition, empowering unpaid carers and ensuring that families can access compassionate, practical support when they need it most. Christina also provides dementia training and talks to help carers, care home staff and companies cope with the challenges.
